Here are Some Fabulous ‘home Upgrades On A Budget’ Ideas You Need To Try Out
1. Paint the Door
Create a striking first impression by either changing the front door altogether or repainting it. An additional coat of paints for the other doors in the house would also not hurt much. Change all the handles, door knobs and hinges. These are easy and inexpensive changes that would make a radical transformation to the way your house looks.
2. Change the Backsplash
Kitchen tiles tend to become dirty and dull pretty soon, spoiling the entire look of the kitchen in the process. So opt to change at least the backsplash to make your kitchen look cleaner and more inviting. Tiles can be expensive, so opt for alternatives like wooden beadboards, tin ceiling tiles, stainless steel, wallpaper, magnetic paint or even chalkboard, etc. to achieve the same look with minimal costs.
3. Change the Switchplate Covers and Electrical Outlets
With time, the switchplate covers and electrical outlets in the house tend to develop a yellowish discoloration that can make them look dull and dirty. So change them regularly. They won’t cost much and you can also opt for stainless steel or patterned covers for a brighter appeal.
4. Create your own Headboards
Headboards do not necessarily need to be made of wood. You can use a variety of materials to make your own headboards at home. These include unused plastic boards, skateboards, skis, old doors, fencing and even window shutters, etc. You can also refresh the older headboard by decorating it with pictures or other artistic pieces.
5. Change the Lighting Effects
The same lighting effects can become boring after some time. Refresh the look of a room by simply opting for a couple of new lights or rearranging the old ones. A small light fixture added to the dining table area would brighten up the area significantly. Decorate old, plain lampshades with a variety of items like buttons, flowers and other creative materials. And spray paint the chandelier to give it a new, glowing look. You can also repaint the blades of the ceiling fans while you are at it.
6. Paint the Ceiling
If you can’t afford to paint the walls of the house, paint the ceiling instead. This would brighten up the room to an extent. Opt for a contrasting color (than the walls) that would draw eyes to the ceiling rather than the walls. This would definitely create an impact.
7. Give the Cabinets a Facelift
Repaint old cabinets and replace their knobs. This would instantly make them look as good as new. Choose knobs and fittings that match the size of the old ones in order to avoid problems during installation.
8. Accessorize Small Spaces
Sometimes all a small space in the house needs to look radiant is a fresh coat of paint. Consider painting these small spaces in bold colors to make them stand out. Hang mirrors in these areas to brighten them up as well as give the illusion of a bigger area, thereby extending the impact of these small spaces into much larger areas.
9. Get Lots of Plants
Plants add that much needed green touch to your home. So make sure you get plenty of indoor and outdoor plants to freshen up your house. Transfer plants present in plastic containers to ceramic pots, a small upgrade that would improve their look as well as the look of the area they are placed in.
